Pardon me, but isn't the Kaoss Pad an effects unit? I believe the MIDI input is there only for syncing to the beat, so that for instance delay effects will play in time with the beat from the main device. I only have the Mini Kaoss Pad 2, which doesn't have MIDI at all, so i might be wrong. Sure the Kaoss Pad 3 can generate some sounds of it's own; it's appears to have a pretty cool sampler even, but it's not a sound module. These sounds are intended to be played manually on the pad; more like effect sounds I think. The Kaossilator model is more of a sound module, which could work with your MIDI setup; i.e. where you actually replace the Tenori-on's sounds instead of just treating them.

This is one way to use Tenori-on + Kaoss Pad:
Tenori-on audio out (split cable into two RCA phono connectors) -> Kaoss Pad audio in -> Audio out -> Mixer/speakers.
If you connect the MIDI out from Tenori-on as well, you might sync the two units, which would be very useful in some settings. Kaoss pad must be set to 'slave' then.

This is how I use my Tenori-on with Mini Kaoss Pad:
Tenori-on audio out into mixer.
Mixer Aux send to Kaoss Pad audio in. Audio out into mixer's Aux return. It's very similar to the above, but with the send and return knobs I can blend in how much effect I want on the signal from the Tenori-on.

Yes, you only want to pass the audio signal from the TO into the Kaoss pad, not the midi

yes, and if you get around to using the TNR as a midi controller, navigating the "preference menu," you will notice "local control". turn the local control off to prevent the TNR from making noises while using it as a midi controller.

Check this nice vid of a KP3 & tenori sync;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA8KjvVo6bU

He's using the KP3 to apply FX and filters to the output of the tenori, but using MIDI to keep the FX in sync with the timing from the tenori

True... (and also does quite decent "looping")
There is more possible by CC mesages but most dont use.

When the more MIDI-fied Kaossilator Pro (should arrive any day now!) is here, that will be an interesting connection to make,
because it IS primarily a synth.)
